Chromium Doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Cr4+:YAG)

Chromium doped yttrium aluminum garnet combines a large absorption cross section in the 0.9-1.2 micrometer spectral region, good thermal conductivity and high damage threshold which makes it an attractive choice as a passively Q-switching diode pumped or lamp pumped passive Q-switching material for Nd doped lasers. Because of better performance, compact size and low cost, it replaces the more traditional Q-switching materials like organic dyes.
